Treatment

Music video Treatment:

Title: ‘Honestly, I’m a Fake’ by Goodnight Vienna

Genre: Alternative rock.

Narrative: Video starts as a group of friends, who will be the band members and their close friends, hanging out and having a laugh at the park in the evening. The main characters are made clear through the use of close ups and tracking of the characters. Lead girl catches sight of lead boy walking away from group and runs after and pulls boy back. There is then shouting and the girl gestures towards the other girl asking who she is? In the climax of the argument either the male or female lead will mime the title of the song, which is ‘Honestly, I’m a Fake’. The boy goes back to the other girl and the lead female actress stays where she is. When she finally turns around and start to re-join group there will be flashbacks to the relationship in the past and the good moments. Performance shots will be used after the flashbacks for the rest of the video with some crosscutting to close-ups of the lead actress expression and how the rest of the friends are still having a good time.

Lostprophets music video analysis notes

Lostprophets – For He's A Jolly Good Felon

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjNRNeKqQqA

Genre
• Alternative rock, hard rock, emo, nu metal

Narrative
• "The song is about us growing up on council estates in Wales. The lyrics are about that way of life, I am not condoning it. We were good boys, it was just that our environment exposed us to anti-social behaviour. In this new album I have been very honest lyrically without a filter or producer. I have already covered areas like the conditioning of society and my anger towards it, so I suppose I just didn't want to repeat myself."

Brief

I have decided to do the first brief which is to construct a promotional package for an release of an album. The main project of a music video and the ancillary tasks of a digipak and a magazine advertisement for digipak. I have a band to work and they have said that I can use one of their songs as the backing track and that if I need them, they will be in the video. I don't have ideas for the video, digipak or advert yet.

I have to analyze 3 music videos, 2 digipaks and 2 magazine adverts. The music videos I am going to analyze are;

  • General Fiasco - I'm not made of eyes
  • You Me at Six - Kiss and tell
  • Lostprophets - For he's a jolly good felon

The 2 digipak covers I'm going to analyze are;
  • The Blackout - The Best In Town
  • Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions
The 2 magazine adverts for digipaks I'm going to analyze are;
  • Funeral For a Friend - Your history is mine (greatest hits album)
  • The Prodigy - Invaders must die (album)
